Busselton Bike Loop: An Underrated 30km Adventure

I've been doing a lot of riding around Busselton in the last few weeks, and we are spoiled with options here - everywhere you look there is another bike path running off somewhere. Busselton is certainly the most bike friendly town in the South West and today I'll be sharing an underrated section of Busselton's many cycle paths - the Busselton Bike Loop (coined by me, just then).

We live in Yalyalup and are very fortunate that we can access the Busselton Bike Loop from our house. The loop itself is roughly 30 kilometres, and about 90% of that is on dedicated cycle paths - perfect for families and riders of all abilities. Half of the loop is on the Busselton Dunsborough coastal path which we've shared before, the other half runs along Bussell Highway and through Vasse. While you're trading beach views for bush and kangaroos, you'll also be escaping the crowds and the wind. If you're in Busselton for more than a day or two, I'd definitely recommend trying this loop out after you've done the iconic coastal route.

Busselton bike hire is made easy with Burnside Bikes - we'll deliver and pick up the bikes wherever you like, for free! That means you can start the loop wherever is best for you. We have a full range of bikes including e-bikes for those longer rides, and kids bikes, baby seats, and trailers for families wanting to explore together.

Head along the coastal route towards Dunsborough from Busselton and you'll enjoy about 10km of the beautiful coastline we luckily get to call home. Once the bike path shifts up to Bussell Highway, instead of turning right to head to Dunsborough, cross the road towards the RAC Holiday Park and follow the bike path up the drain.

This section of the loop is one of my favourites - to one side you'll have water and on the other side sprawling farm lands that are home to many kangaroos. It's a great opportunity to spot all sorts of wildlife, and kids absolutely love the roo spotting along here.

The loop has a far boundary up against Vasse, when you can see Vasse you'll want to turn towards Busselton and follow the inland cycle track. This part of the track is beautiful and quiet with a few sights to see along the way. There is a large regeneration project (more kangaroos!), lots of forest and even a river to cross. This is also the most quiet part of the trail and you might only see one or two other people there.

Once you can see Western Growers Fresh, it's time to turn left and head back towards Busselton. Make sure to stop in for a bite though! Western Growers have a great selection of hot and cold food and drinks, showcasing a lot of the local region's best produce. It's the perfect lunch stop if you're making a full day of it.

Following the cycle path towards Busselton you'll get some last glimpses of farm lands - it really doesn't feel like you're only 2km from the beach and a packed foreshore but that's why we love the loop!

There is no marked cycle path through Busselton to reach the cycle path (and finish the loop), but the riding through Busselton town is always relaxed, just make sure you obey the road rules and take it easy where you can.

Roughly 30 kilometres later and you've now had a window into the life of Busselton locals, enjoying the areas that aren't as frequented by tourists.
